Professional Development

One of the main goals of the Cruise into Kindergarten initiative is to educate and train library staff to provide high quality early literacy experiences for families, while increasing librarians' knowledge of brain development, ECRR, and Early Learning and STEM standards applied to programming.

Our Professional Development section will contain online courses and other self-guided professional development. We currently have five opportunities, including three new courses for professional development credit: developing early learning play spaces at your library, building executive function skills, and brain development. 

1) Early Learning Play Spaces module which provides a self-guided online course and offers professional development credit for participants   NEW!

2) Building Executive Function, Social Emotional Skills module which provides a self-guided online course and offers professional development credit for participants   NEW!

3) Brain Development module which provides a self-guided online course and offers professional development credit for participants   NEW!

4) the ECRR2 overview which introduces staff to Every Child Ready to Read® 2nd Edition, providing  background information, an overview of updated early literacy research, an introduction to the five early literacy practices, and a preview of the Parent Workshop

5) the ECRR2 Early Literacy and Learning Spaces workshop which focuses on the design and arrangement of library spaces for young children
